SUMMIT ‘24
“Celebrating You, Shaping Our Future, Sustaining Hawaiʻi Together.
Mahalo to all who joined us on May 3, 2024, at the beautiful OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa
Reports and findings of the Summit will be made available soon. Please continue to check back, or sign up below to be on our Summit mailing list.
The headway we’ve made over the last three years could not have happened without all of us coming together with a common goal — to leave our island better than we found it. Although our work may differ from sector to sector, the truth is that every effort, whether big or small, plays a critical role in protecting our fragile ecosystem and its most precious resources.
That’s why we’ve decided to make this year’s Summit all about YOU! A celebration of your work, commitment, and love for Hawaiʻi Island — our home.
To do that, we plan to host a series of pre-Summit events that will allow for thoughtful engagement between like-minded organizations and individuals within the context of our 6 Hawaiʻi Sustainability Goals outlined by Hawaiʻi Green Growth and the Aloha+ Challenge.
As those groups begin their engagement, we intend to gather students from around Hawaiʻi Island to engage in the first-ever Youth Congress, where our keiki can convene and collectively decide the path forward for our island home.
The Summit will then convene to culminate the outcomes of both the Youth Congress and Working Groups while paying homage to Summits past by creating opportunities for discussion, debate, and, most importantly, a stage for collective agreement on the path forward.
We will sum up all Summit events by way of a Celebration held at the Hawaiʻi Lawn at the OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa as a way to invite all in the community to see our work — what we’ve accomplished and what we have planned moving forward. It will be a chance to showcase locally grown foods, sustainable products, live-local music and talent, and, most importantly, tell our story to our residents.
Sustainability, to me, has many meanings, as it probably does for you. However, its most significant meaning to me is our ability to allow future generations to thrive here in their home. That means creating opportunities for growth while preserving our ‘āina and our Hawaiian culture.
Mahalo to all for your continued willingness to come together with hope for our collective future. All our work couldn’t be done without you.
We hope to see you all at Summit ‘24.
With aloha,
Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor
Aloha!
As the sun begins to set on our administration’s first term, we cannot help but be proud of all the work we’ve done together to build a better, brighter, and more sustainable Hawaiʻi Island for our keiki and their keiki to come.
